China reported a record 93 Covid-19 infections in a single day on November 2, 2021, amid the latest outbreak fuelled by the Delta variant. It was the highest daily case figure in China since August 9. Thirty-five of the new infections were reported in Heihe city in Heilongjiang, which shares a border with Russia. The local government ordered shopping centres and grocery stores shut and pledged to arrange packaged necessities, food and assistance to residents. China’s seven-day average of new infections is also rising, indicating the outbreak may be worsening.
